The main objective of this training is to strengthen the HIV Peer Educators’ Programs in the schools. The training provides new educators to the program, as older ones graduate from High School. Those that graduate go on to become members of Rapport, which is the youth arm of the National AIDS Program.
The training program will take place at the Marine Biology Education Center, Venetian Road, and Providenciales. A combination of local facilitators and members of the BARCAM (A regional youth leadership training company) will conduct the workshop. We are expecting 50 youths from the Nation’s High Schools to attend this workshop.
Members of the media, parents, well wishers and dignitaries are invited to attend the closing and presentation ceremony on Friday 13th at 2 .p.m. At the ceremony the newly trained peer educators will present various items which will display the various skills and information which they would have been exposed to over the week. Those in attendance will also have an opportunity to learn more about the program and how the young people hope to function on their return to school.
Over the week the young people will be exposed to sessions such as:
HIV/AIDS 101 and young people
Decision making skills
Communication Skills ( talking and listening to my peers)
Presentation skills (theatre and HIV)
During the academic year the students are expected to make presentations to their school while the National AIDS Program with support from the schools will provide manuals, updates and periodic capacity building training exercises.
This program operates under the premise that young people can effectively reach other young people in the promotion of behavior change.
We look forward to having members of the media cover this event, please feel free to call us for further information and clarification.
